Mothers, have I told you?

Happy Mother's Day to all that be!
To me, it means letting my child know how profound and unconditional our bond is and will remain transcending time, space, universe.
Let me not turn all poetic on you all, you may have to repress an urge to roll eyes, like I do when I read cheap, cheesy and lazy commonplace thoughts stretched into would-be poetry.
I'm not good with beautiful wording and the Art of stringing words in a way that moves and rocks a soul to its core. Many other, like me suck at stirring deep into readers' guts to get the emotions out. And so I'll leave it to an author like Rachel Coyne to magnificently put words in a mother's mouth as they embody with strength and superiority, the beautiful emotional journey I always thought being a mom would be. Taken from her children's book, Daughter, have I told you?, the excerpts you're about to read move me to no ends each and every time I get to read the book-length poem to my precious daughter.
Although it is about a mother/daughter dynamic, I'm sure the same would apply to characterize a mother/son dynamic, in that it gives you a bird's view on life and communicates a sense of belonging to a broader family. All in great symbiosis with vital elements, creatures, organisms and generations. The marvelous illustrations by Virgina Halstead are another reason to get carried away to that serene and peaceful state of bliss. Enjoy.

Daughter, Have I told you?
You are of women whose words are wildflowers.
Whose stomachs are soft hills
And whose shoulders are the river's marshy end.
[...]
Daughter Have I told you?
You are of women
Whose hands are the harvest.
[...]
Daughter, Have I told you?
These women, like your
momma and grandmama,
will stretch up from the earth,
dark and strong like trees.

And you, little one,
Will sit in our branches
And feel cool wind blow.
