I think I am by now knee-deep into that buzz and rah rah surrounding the movie or anything having to do with four of the most recognized characters of our great city of New York. Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha and C-a-r-r-i-e!
It's not so much about the risqué fashion, the steamy sex/ hot guys, flashy jewelry, upscale living or the friendship, as it is about making that impossible ideal somehow look plausible, accessible.
In the HBO series, Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw was struggling on all fronts: to keep love interests interested, to make ends meet on a Jimmy Choo budget, to stay in her apartment as the building was going co-op. And it seemed like every little opportunity she had to experience the "yacht life" was through regular connections. Sure, the immediate circle of friends was made of a successful P.R, a cut-throat attorney and a straight-edge sweetheart working in a Art gallery, but to a good chunk of NYC professionals that doesn't fall too far from the truth.
I can look around me and find more people who've experienced all sorts of incredibly dazzling moments (through connections) than can be counted on my ten fingers. Those who spent weeks on yachts at the coasts of St Barth or Italy; those who went to ski resorts on private jets, spent weekends in coveted Hamptons digs, those who attended Galas hosted by Prada or Chanel, those who dated celebrities (including Chris Noth, the real-life Mr. Big); those who dined at the Mayor's table and the list goes on...
All would attest that nothing in their backgrounds or lifestyle at the time could have had them think they would take part in such one-of-a-kind fun times. They would also be quick to say that these experiences were gracious, complimentary and all the more enjoyable for that.
Now back to Carrie, aren't most fabulous situations she gets herself into just accidents or teeny bit of luck? I think she savvily rides the wave of being connected and create even greater opportunities for herself or the people she cares about. Do you agree with that observation? Wether you do or not, refresh our memory and give us examples from the HBO show that underlines your position or undermines mine. And tell us how excited you are about upcoming Sex And The City 2?
